First Results from the SPICES Survey

چکیده
We present first results from SPICES, the Spectroscopic, Photometric, Infrared-Chosen Extragalactic Survey. SPICES is comprised of four ≈ 30 arcmin high Galactic latitude fields with deep BRIzJKs imaging reaching depths of ≈ 25 mag (AB) in the optical and ≈ 23 mag (AB) in the near-infrared. To date we have 626 spectroscopic redshifts for infrared-selected SPICES sources with Ks < 20 (Vega). The project is poised to address galaxy formation and evolution to redshift z ≈ 2. We discuss initial results from the survey, including the surface density of extremely red objects and the fraction of infrared sources at z > 1. One of the SPICES fields has been the target of a deep 190 ksec Chandra exposure; we discuss initial results from analysis of that data set. Finally, we briefly discuss a successful campaign to identify high-redshift sources in the SPICES fields.

A Survey on Fungal Contamination Incurrent Consumed Spices in Hamedan in 2019
Background: Spices are a rich source of powerful antioxidants and food flavors in the production and maintenance process that may be exposed to fungal contamination. The purpose of this study was to investigate the fungal contamination of various spices including curry, red pepper, black pepper, turmeric and cinnamon from some supermarkets in Hamedan. Methods: In this cross-sectional study that...
متن کاملNatural Occurrence of Ochratoxin A Contamination in Commercial Spices in Tehran
Background and Objectives: Non-sanitary conditions during the drying, transport and storage stages in the production of spices could introduce mycotoxin contamination. The aim of the current study was to determine the concentration of ochratoxin A (OTA) in 92 commercial spices (including red pepper, black pepper, turmeric and cinnamon) imported to Iran. Materials and Methods: OTA levels were...
متن کاملSpices as a source of lead exposure: a market-basket survey in Sri Lanka.
We performed a laboratory analysis of spices sold in Sri Lanka for lead content. Samples of curry powder, chili powder and turmeric powder from seven provinces, collected using the market basket survey method, underwent atomic absorption spectrometry. Blanks and standards were utilised for instrument calibration and measurement accuracy. The results were validated in two different laboratories....
متن کاملPublic Health Implications of Antibiotic-Resistant Bacteria Associated with Suya Spices in Nigeria
Background: The emergence and re-emergence of antibiotic-resistant foodborne bacteria call for concerted efforts, especially in developing countries. Spices have been employed traditionally to improve the aroma and flavour of foods; however, they could serve as reservoirs for the spread of potential pathogenic organisms. This study aims to investigate the public health implications of antibiot...
متن کاملComparative Study of the Major Iranian Cereal Cultivars and some Selected Spices in relation to Support Aspergillus parasiticus Growth and Aflatoxin Production
Background: Aflatoxins are toxic fungal metabolites enable to contaminate a wide range of natural substrates. This contamination can be host-specific for different plant species. In this study, the ability of a toxigenic Aspergillus parasiticus to produce various aflatoxins on major Iranian cereals was evaluated with special focus on plant susceptibility to toxin production at cultivar level. M...
